HSBC Big Lots Credit Card Complaint – They Debited My Bank Account And Told Me They Never Recieved A Payment And Applied Interest Charges!

Yesterday I received a letter in the mail from HSBC notifying me that they applied a payment to my account but then needed to cancel it because they applied it to the wrong account.  When I received it, I really didn’t understand it because I had made a payment of 76 at the beginning of the month towards my Big Lots credit card.  I took it as they applied a credit to my account and meant to put it onto another account.

Well when I went to look on my account today I saw that I owed $412.76.  When I saw this I was shocked because I knew this couldn’t be correct since I had made 2 payments of $100 and $145 within the 2 months of payments.  This really pissed me off so I decided to break down the numbers and see what HSBC did to screw my account up.

When I took the original charge of the purchase and subtracted the first payment of $100, I realized the total I was left with was the balance they have shown online.  I was really annoyed at this point because I looked at the bill closer and saw that they applied interest charges for not paying the bill on time.  I can’t believe a major bank like HSBC can’t get their information correct.

I then went online to my bank account through Wachovia.  Once I logged into my account, I was able to locate the two payments that HSBC took out of it. I printed it out so when I called them I had it right in front of me so they couldn’t call me a liar!

I called them today since they were closed yesterday when I opened the letter.  The woman was a foreigner and could barely speak any English.  Nothing frustrates me more than not being to speak English in my home country!  She kept telling me that they sent me a notice of this twice and that it fell into my responsibility to pay my bills on time.

I was well beyond pissed off at this point so I decided to hang up before I lost it on her.  I want to let everyone know not to get the Big Lots credit card through HSBC because they don’t handle your personal information securely.  I should have known from the beginning because they had lost my credit application when I first applied and it took 3 months to get my credit card in the mail.

Everyone do yourself a favor and don’t apply for any credit card that’s through HSBC.  Not even if there was no interest for life on every purchase.  No matter what, they will screw up your information and mis charge your account or make it look like you didn’t make a payment when it shows on your personal bank account they took it out.

For your information, the United States does not have an official language, so one can speak any language he/she wants. At least the person is learning enough English to deal with irate people such as yourself. Have patience. If you ever learn another language (b/c it seems like you haven’t), you will understand how hard the task can be for some, especially if you learn as an adult. There are more languages out there than English.

It IS VERY frustrating when the person on the other end of the line does not speak English very well! ESPECIALLY when your money is at stake!! I understand that learning another language is difficult, but those who are learning should NOT be the ones providing customer service on the phone lines for another languaged business! People’s finances and lives are on the line! And the communication is much more than just the words! A lot of times the foreign customer services do not understand the importance or frustration they cause by NOT understanding what you are saying! It is almost like they are reading a script! =(
